 Care & Maintenance

Wooden Trays: Care & Maintenance

Our trays are crafted from spruce, pine, or fir, with the interior surface finished in resin for durability and beauty. The exterior sides and bottom are stained and coated with lacquer for a natural look and protection. For best results:

  • Everyday Cleaning (Interior Resin Surface): Wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Remove spills promptly to avoid staining or warping. Mild, diluted soap can be used for sticky spots, followed by a clean, dry cloth. Never soak or rinse under running water.
  • No Dishwasher: Do not place in the dishwasher or immerse in water. Moisture can damage both the resin and the wood.
  • Heat Caution: Avoid placing hot pots, pans, or dishes directly on the resin surface. Use trivets or coasters to protect from heat damage.
  • Resin Surface: The resin interior is durable but can scratch—avoid cutting or using sharp utensils directly on the tray.
  • Exterior Cleaning (Stained & Lacquered Sides/Bottom): Wipe gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads, which may dull or remove the lacquer finish.
  • Storage: Store trays flat in a cool, dry place. Avoid stacking heavy items on top to maintain shape and finish.

FAQ

Q: Are your wooden trays waterproof?
A: They are resin-coated for protection, but I don’t recommend soaking or leaving standing water on the surface. Quick wipe-ups are perfect.

Q: Can I use a BrookeLynn’s Home tray for food?
A: I recommend using trays for styling, serving wrapped items, or as a decorative catch-all. If you plan to use it around food, use a liner or place items on plates/napkins.

Q: How do I clean a resin-coated wooden tray?
A: Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry right away. Avoid abrasive sponges and harsh cleaners, which can dull the finish.

Q: Can I place hot mugs or candles on the tray?
A: Use a coaster or heat-safe base. Resin finishes can soften with high heat, so I recommend protecting the surface from very hot items.

Q: Will the stain color vary?
A: Yes—wood grain is naturally unique, and stain absorbs differently from piece to piece. That variation is part of the handcrafted character.

Q: Can I cut food directly on a resin-coated wooden tray?
A: I don’t recommend it. Cutting can scratch the resin surface. If you’re serving, use a cutting board or plates to keep the finish pristine.

Q: What happens if my tray gets wet underneath (like condensation)?
A: Wipe it dry as soon as possible. Condensation can sit unnoticed and may affect wood over time. A quick dry-down protects both the wood and the finish.

Q: Can I use your tray outdoors on a patio?
A: For short periods, yes—but I don’t recommend leaving it outdoors. Sun, temperature swings, and moisture can stress both wood and resin finishes.

Q: How do I prevent scratches on a resin-coated tray?
A: Avoid dragging heavy or rough items across the surface. Felt pads under décor pieces and gentle handling go a long way.

Q: What should I do if the tray feels slightly tacky?
A: Tacky texture is usually a sign of heat exposure or a surface reacting to a cleaner. Move it to a cooler area, stop using chemical cleaners, and wipe gently with a damp cloth, then dry.

Our Artisan Story

Each wooden tray here at BrookeLynn's Home is made from carefully selected woods, stained and finished with resin for beauty and durability. Inspired by natural textures and the joy of entertaining, each tray is handcrafted in Philadelphia and reflects my passion for functional artistry.

Celebrate the natural beauty of wood grain with the Heritage Cross Wooden Tray—a handcrafted decorative statement that blends timeless craftsmanship with bold, architectural contrast.

The solid wood frame is finished in a rich, dark Jacobean stain, creating an elegant border that grounds the piece with depth and sophistication. Inside, the tray’s base features a striking geometric arrangement of multi-tonal wood planks. Warm Golden Oak stained pieces are meticulously inlaid to form a distinct plus sign (cross) motif at the center—an intentional focal point that feels balanced, graphic, and refined. Surrounding it, deep Jacobean stained planks create a rhythmic frame that highlights the natural texture and variation of the wood.

The entire surface is sealed beneath a thick, high-gloss resin finish, producing a smooth, glass-like sheen that adds remarkable depth to the wood tones while enhancing durability and ease of care. Sleek 6.0” matte black handles complete the look with a low-profile, modern silhouette that complements the dark stain without competing with the craftsmanship.
