1. Are these resin and cement bowls food-safe?
No, these bowls are designed strictly for decorative use. They are not food-safe and should not be used for wet, hot, or un-wrapped food items. They work wonderfully as catchalls for keys and jewelry, table centerpieces, or holders for decorative accents and wrapped treats.
2. Will my bowl look identical to the website photos?
Because each piece is individually hand-cast in our Philadelphia studio, no two bowls are identical. Natural variations in cement texture, micro-air bubbles, and resin color swirls are inherent to the artisan process, making your bowl a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.
3. How should I clean and maintain my bowl?
Wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge the bowl in water, put it in the dishwasher, or clean it with harsh chemical sprays or abrasive scrubbers, as these can strip the sealant or dull the finish.
4. Can this bowl be used outdoors?
Our bowls are designed for indoor display. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, extreme heat, rain, or freezing temperatures can cause the resin to yellow or soften and may cause the concrete to weather or crack over time.
5. Can I place candles or hot items inside the bowl?
Keep the bowl away from direct heat sources. Do not pour hot candle wax or hot liquids directly into it, as elevated temperatures can soften, warp, or mark the resin surface.
6. Is the bowl heavy and breakable?
The concrete element gives each bowl a sturdy, grounded weight, while high-grade resin adds overall durability. However, like ceramic or stone, the bowl can chip or crack if dropped onto a hard surface, so treat it with care.
7. How are these bowls handcrafted?
Each bowl is crafted by hand-mixing and casting cement alongside custom-colored resin. Once cured, the piece is carefully sanded smooth to refine the edges and sealed by hand to bring out the contrast between the concrete texture and the smooth resin finish.
8. What are the best ways to style a resin and cement bowl?
They are versatile accent pieces. Popular uses include:
- Entryway catchall for keys, wallets, and glasses
- Vanity or dresser tray for daily jewelry
- Coffee or dining table centerpiece with decorative spheres, moss, or dried florals
- Standalone sculptural accent on bookshelves and side tables
